The best way to find a good personal injury lawyer is through word of mouth. Ask your friends, ask around. "Do you know any PI attorneys that you could recommend?" Chances are that a friend or someone you work with will be able to suggest an attorney who will be right for you.
Failing that, then do internet research, check the phone book or watch for ads on television.
What you would be looking for at first would be an attorney with a good track record for winning cases and getting the best settlement terms possible. Finding a PI attorney who has had trial experience is also a plus because if push comes to shove, your individual case doesn't settle and you are forced to go to trial, you want someone in the courtroom with you who knows what he or she is doing and who can meet opposing counsel toe-to-toe. Insurance company defense lawyers go to trial frequently and they know how to win cases in court so you want an attorney who can win cases in court too.
Next, you want to find an attorney that you can work well with. Do you feel comfortable with your new lawyer? Do you think you can work smoothly with him or her over a long period of time if your case isn't settled immediately? And sometimes PI cases do stretch out for unavoidable reasons, depending on the type of injury you have. Sometimes accident injuries take a long time to heal and settlements usually can't be reached until you find out how long an injury will realistically take to heal.
Another factor to look into is the quality of a personal injury attorney's staff. Even if an attorney is a lone practitioner, there will usually also be a legal assistant involved in the process and you will be working with this person closely as they collect your medical records and document your narrative.
The bottom line? There are many excellent Injury Lawyers out there to chose from and chances are good that you'll find the best one for you.
